2) About the Argentine Go Association

The Argentine Go Association (Asociación Argentina del Juego de Go, AAGO) organizes most go-related activities in Argentina, including teaching programs and tournaments, with the aim of further spreading the game in the country. These activities are sometimes carried out in cooperation with other national and international go organizations.

The AAGO is an officially registered non-profit organization.

Activities held by the AAGO include:

  • Go courses on different levels: beginners, intermediate, advanced. Also go lectures for beginners, or commented games, are offered regularly. These activities take place at the AAGO Go club in Buenos Aires.
  • AAGO members give courses at different places, such as the Rojas Cultural Center (operated by the University of Buenos Aires) and Go clubs in Nichia Gakuin (Japanese school) and the University of Buenos Aires (Faculty of Science).
  • Tournaments: National Championship (40 players in 2007), University Student's Tournament, pair-go, beginners and intermediate events, and qualifying tournaments for international competitions.
  • Argentina Go Congress: Held every year since 2006, it features classes, lectures, promotion for beginners, a Main Tournament, and side tournaments. Some events were held at the National Congress Library.
  • Support to Go groups and clubs over the country through lending and discount sale of go boards, stones and start-up material in general. Also, AAGO members try to visit new Go clubs regularly for teaching or playing, thus helping them to take off.
